I like streetcars too. I think that like typewriters they are making a comeback but unlike them their success depends too much on the public recognizing their utility and paying for them.
I'm fascinated by the woolly rhetoric, ego and and bollocks that surround their shutdown and demise - by that I mean the Paul Allens of the world. A greedy little consortium of vested interests usually kill off all the good public transport initiatives. Brisbane used to have a great tram system - but it got killed off for similar reasons. Sad...
